Summary of the fourth verse of shikshastaka.

According to Srila Bhaktividonada Thakur one should first hear the holy name of Sri Hari from the mouth of the Guru. Thereafter, free from all offenses,he should chant harinama with great faith.

By chanting the name according to the method mentioned below:

No desire to accumulate wealth, followers, sensual enjoyment and mundane knowledge the four symptoms mentioned in verse three of the shikshastaka will manifest in the heart. Only desire to render unalloyed devotional service to Sri Krishna birth after birth.

Without awakening one’s spiritual identity pure devotional service characterised by ecstatic love wlll not be realised in the sadhaka.

The four symptoms are: Humility, tolerance, pridelessness, respecting all other according to their position.

Unalloyed devotional service has the following characteristics: It is devoid of result-seeking mentality. It is transcendental in nature. It gives pleasure to Sri Krishna. It is pure. It is exclusive. It is unmixed. And It is free from all material attachments.

One’s liberation from birth and death takes place by the will of the lord.

Therefore Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu prays: O Sri Krishna let me have unmotivated devotion to your lotus feet birth after birth regardless of my material circumstances – this is my only prayer.
